Waldo Noland

April 10, 1940 ~ July 14, 2021 (age 81)

Tribute

Wally passed away peacefully at home in the afternoon of July 14th.  Wally was born in Carroll, Iowa to Clifford and Fay Noland and was proud of his Iowa roots.  He is survived by his wife, Sylvia, son, David Noland (Kyu), grandchildren Noah (13) and Grace (10), his sister Carlyss, sister-in-law, Alice (Howard), cousin Davee, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Wally was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.  He was an excellent athlete who enjoyed football, basketball, running, tennis, and many other activities.  In his senior year of high school he was named to the third team all state in football and basketball and was on the state high school championship track team.  At graduation he was named the Outstanding Athlete.  In later years he was a consistent attendee of the gym.  He also enjoyed attending and helping out with his son, David’s, athletic activities.  He attended University of South Dakota and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics.

Wally served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army from 1962 to 1964.  He was very proud of the medal of commendation that he was awarded.  After the army he attended graduate school in Computer Science at the University of Iowa.  Since then he has been a loyal fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes.  He left Iowa to come to California and work for NASA in Mountain View doing experiments for the future trip to the moon.  He also earned an MBA at Santa Clara University in the early ’70’s.

Wally worked at high-tech jobs for about half of his career at NASA, Lockheed, RCC, and BTI.  He sold real estate for approximately the other half.

He was a gentle, wonderful, reliable man.  He will be missed by all his friends and family.

A celebration of life will be held in approximately one month.
