Thomas Clawson Bacon passed away on December 17, 2018 from complications of diabetes. He was given an extra 7 years because of two wonderful women who donated kidneys. His sister-in-law Vickie Bell graciously donated her kidney to put Tom on the waiting list, enabling him to receive a kidney donated by Heather Hansen. His family is forever thankful for their kindness and generosity.
Tom was born in Salt Lake City, UT to Ruth and Elmer Bacon and was raised with his sister Beverly. He attended East High School and earned a Banking & Finance degree at the University of Utah.
In the 1960s, Tom founded Bacon Financial Management, and moved to California where he practiced tax consulting for 59 years. He enjoyed working with his many clients. During the 1980's, he often spent time working in Arkansas where he published the Arkansas Better Business Bureau Consumer Resource book and presented it to then Governor Bill Clinton.
A proud patriot, Tom was known by his friends and family as “Captain America”, and often wore colorful red, white and blue attire. Later in his life, he was thrilled to meet and get an autographed picture with President George H. W. Bush.
Tom loved his wonderful church friends. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He served at the Oakland Temple and the Campbell Ward, as well as being an auditor for the church. He also enjoyed playing golf, and was very proud of his hole-in-one.
Tom is survived by his loving wife Darlene, his “TL” (Tom’s Love), his children Tammi (Skip) of Idaho, Mike (Mo) of Lake Tahoe, Jennifer (Brian) and Jeff of Salt Lake City. He inherited an extended family when he married Darlene, and is survived by Tom (Michele) of Santa Clara, Dana (Pat) of San Clemente, and Toni (Cliff) of Washington State, along with 12 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
