Stella passed peacefully from life the morning of March 11, 2019. Jan Valentine, Stella’s daughter, had been taking care of her over the last several years.
Stella was born in Oakley, CA on May 7, 1923. Her parents, Dora and Peter Fortis, owned a local “bar” that served local farmers during prohibition.
After saving enough money from her parent’s adventure, Stella’s family moved to Gilroy, CA in 1928. Her parent’s purchased 2 1/2 acres, and grew tomato seedlings for the local farmers to plant. She attended both Elementary and High School in Gilroy, and graduated in 1941. Stella was quite the athlete, and lettered in both basketball and swimming.
After graduation, Stella attended Heald College in San Jose, CA, and graduated in 1943 in stenography and bookkeeping. Her first job was at the Woodland, CA courthouse where her parent’s had relocated to purchase their dream farm of 400 acres.
Stella moved back to San Jose, CA in 1946 to marry her life long beau Louis Flores. Lou had just returned from almost three years in the South Pacific during WW ll. Lambie Pie (Lou) and Twinkle Doll (Stella) were married on April 12, 1947. They were by each other’s side for almost 72 loving years.
Stella is survived by her husband Louis Flores of Brentwood, CA, her daughter Jan Valentine and her husband Jim Valentine of Brentwood CA, her son Tim Flores and his wife Belinda Voorhoeve of Laguna Niguel, CA, and her grandchildren Erik Valentine, and Kyle and Kayla Flores.
