Roger Jerome Ostgarden, age 74, of San Jose, California, passed away on May 26th, 2021.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 5th, 2021, at Darling & Fischer Campbell Memorial Chapel. Viewing will be from 9:30 am to 11:00 am, with services from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm, followed by a private burial.
Roger was born August 4th, 1946 in Fosston, Minnesota, and lived an incredible life filled with adventure, travel and family. A graduate of Hibbing High, he made local news in 1960 by biking 190 miles from Hibbing to McIntosh, Minnesota to visit his Grandpa’s farm as a 16 year old boy! He made long distance biking popular well before it was a thing. After moving to San Francisco in the early 1970’s, Roger became serious about bowling, nearly turning pro after playing for so many years.
Roger was married to Yahne on December 22nd, 1979 and were married for 42 years. In 1980, their son Eric was born, and Roger enjoyed teaching him swimming, coaching soccer and attending his basketball games. During the summer months, a day would not pass without Roger catching a Giants baseball game or reading the box scores. After retirement from a successful sales career in the semiconductor industry, Roger travelled the world with Yahne, including Hawaii, Canada and Norway. But they both were most passionate about seeing America by car, and made it to all 50 states, including a two month driving adventure from California to Alaska!
Roger is survived by his loving wife Yahne, son Eric and his wife Kristine and two grandchildren Keira and Kenna. Roger is also survived by his three siblings, Sandra Sunsdahl, Mark Ostgarden and Lori Leiby. In addition, Roger’s nieces and nephews are Kimberly, Patty, Michael, Cassie, Kelsi and Seth. Roger’s extended Ostgarden and Voxland family includes many aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws and friends he enjoyed visiting around the United States. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Ardelle Ostgarden.
