Nilda Fenyo was born September 26, 1922 in Lima, Peru, and passed away peacefully on January 8, 2019 in Mt. View, California at the age of 96.
Nilda was one of 8 children born to Celestino and Herminia Rodriguez Hinostroza. She attended nursing school in Lima in her teens and immigrated to the United States in her twenties.
Nilda began her nursing career in Chicago, Illinois where she worked as a hospital bedside nurse while learning English. Later, Nilda moved to Los Angeles and worked at Cedars of Lebanon Hospital. While working there, she took care of Anna Fenyo, mother of Thomas Fenyo, her future husband.
Nilda and Thomas married in 1955 and had two daughters. Nilda enjoyed traveling with Thomas and they visited and lived in many places including the southwest United States, Munich and Heidelberg, Germany.
Nilda and Thomas moved to Saratoga in 1968 and Nilda was a Saratoga resident for over 50 years. Nilda continued nursing well into her 80s, and enjoyed working with the elderly. She was a charge nurse at Our Lady of Fatima Villa, and volunteered her time and talent at various organizations including Sisters of the Holy Names, Oddfellows and Saratoga Senior Center. Thomas predeceased Nilda in 1995 after 40 years of marriage. Nilda remarried Leon Mendelson in 1998 and Leon predeceased Nilda in 2016.
Nilda is survived by daughters Ann Bailey of Eugene, OR and Margaret Pinelli of Saratoga, CA. She was a loving grandmother and is survived by grandchildren Michelle Firth, Michael Tinoco, William Tinoco, Maisie Bailey, Benjamin Bailey, and Matthew Pinelli, and survived by great-grandson Rex Thomas Firth.
Nilda had great faith and will be missed by her family and friends. Rest in peace, dear Nilda.
