It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Ann Edwards on January 17, 2023 in Saratoga, CA. She was born on August 4, 1931 in Elk River, ID, and was the only child of Margaret and Jack Tobin. Her father, Jack, worked for the Montgomery Ward company, travelling throughout the west managing different stores. As a result, Mary Ann grew up in various parts of California, attending 12 schools before graduating high school.
In 1952, Mary Ann met her future husband, Raymond James Edwards, on a church ski trip. They were married just four months later on August 9, 1952 in San Francisco. Together, they welcomed two daughters, Theresa and Jane, and built a life filled with love and adventure. They were married for 62 years before Ray's passing in 2015.
Mary Ann was a devoted wife, mother, and friend to many. Her faith was the center of her life, and she was deeply involved in her church, St. Mary's in Los Gatos. She was an eucharistic minister, liturgy participant, music lover and decorated the church for every holiday. She and Ray also served as chair of the Country Faire in 1983 and attended daily mass for decades.
In the 1970s, she joined a prayer group that continues to this day and remained close with those women for the rest of her life. After Ray retired, they travelled extensively all over the U.S. in their travel trailer, visiting all 50 states.
Mary Ann was also extremely proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She lived in the same house in San Jose for over 50 years, and had the opportunity to witness the growth of Silicon Valley from plum orchards to the high-tech boom.
She is survived by her children Theresa Walker and Jane Beach, grandchildren Christopher Walker, Nikole Velo, Lenny Beach, Isaac Beach, great-grandchildren Emma Velo, Wyatt Velo, sons-in-law David Beach, Kyle Velo, and daughter-in-law Laura Stillman, and many cousins from the Mirassou, Dorsa, and Denevan families of San Jose. A funeral mass will be held at St. Mary's Church in Los Gatos, CA on February 4th at 1pm. Mary Ann will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
