John Michael Flores, son of Atilano Flores and Concepcion (Verduzco) Flores, was born on June 7, 1935 in San Jose, California. He was raised with his 7 brothers and sisters in Los Gatos. He graduated from Los Gatos High School in 1954 where he played basketball, football, and the drums in the Advanced Orchestra. He was very involved in a boy’s club called the Barons, and made many lifelong friends. He enjoyed playing drums in a jazz band and racing motorcycles before entering the United States Navy in August of 1957. How he loved telling stories about his days in the Mediterranean Sea aboard the USS Independence, where he had the opportunity to visit Italy, France and Spain. It was days after his discharge in 1961 that he met the love of his life, Pierrette, while they were both vacationing separately in Old Orchard Beach, Maine. It took him several years to convince her to leave her home in Québec, Canada, and marry him, however this handsome, persistent man won her heart and they married in August of 1964. They resided first in Los Gatos and then in San Jose, raising their two children while John worked at Lockheed Missiles and Space. They were blessed with four grandchildren whom they cherished deeply. After retiring, John greatly enjoyed spending time with family, reading, writing, and fishing on Lake of the Pines with his son. After losing Pierrette in 2008 and facing some medical challenges, John lived his last 11 years in Campbell with his daughter and son-in-law.
John passed away May 15, 2020 and is survived by his 107 year-old sister, Helen, his son Daniel, daughter Karen, and grandchildren, Briana, Hannah, Shane and Jacob. He will be greatly missed.
