James E Goebel Sr, resident of Campbell, CA passed away at home on December 16, 2017 after a valiant battle with pulmonary fibrosis. He was born in Jackson Michigan to Marguerite and Leo Goebel, the oldest of 4 children, and graduated from Saline High School. Jim joined the U.S. Navy in 1953, where he was an ECM technician, proudly serving 9 years at various bases including Whidbey Island WA, Pensacola FI, Japan, Korea, Midway Island and the Philippines. He played baseball and softball for the Navy earning All Navy sports awards 1961-1963 then settled in San Jose working for Kaiser Electronics (Palo Alto and San Jose plants), retiring in 1995 after 32 years in Program and Manufacturing management.
At Kaiser he met his wife Bonnie, spent 45 years together creating lifelong memories, enjoyed worldwide vacations including Spain, England, Canada, multiple trips to Maui, Michigan, New England, enjoyed giving and attending parties with friends and family. Always the athlete, he played league softball, basketball, bowling, umpired San Jose P.A.L. girls’ softball games, and of course played too many rounds of golf to count. He also volunteered for 10 years at the AT & T Pro Am golf tournament, Pebble Beach CA.
Jim is survived by his devoted wife Bonnie, his sisters Peg Morley (Chuck), Connie Jean Batey (Ron), brother Clark (Georgia), son James E Goebel, Jr (wife Sharon, grandson Michael), daughter Joelle Faulkner, (husband Jeff, grandsons Brady and Jake), and many nieces and nephews. He was so dearly loved and will be missed by countless friends and extended family.
Memorial service is at Darling Fischer Campbell Memorial Chapel, December 28, 2017 at 4 pm. Private family interment in the Serenity Garden at Los Gatos Memorial Park.
