Heide Hughes passed away on Friday, April 15 after an 11 year battle with breast cancer.
Heide was born in Germany in 1945 and immigrated to San Francisco in 1948. She grew up in San Francisco where she lived with her mother Dolores (Finke) and brother Peter Hoegg. She graduated from George Washington High School in San Francisco. She quickly started a career in business doing accounting and eventually moving on to computer applications. She was a long time instructor and computer lab supervisor at West Valley College. Heide loved to teach and even continued to work part-time after retirement at West Valley helping students with Work Experience.
She lived in Campbell but loved to spend time at her weekend home in Bolinas, CA She also loved to feed the deer and bunnies who frequented the backyard of her Bolinas cabin.
Heide is survived by her children Sabrina Lochner (Phil) and Garrett Hughes of San Jose, CA and her longtime partner, Harry Grover and his children, Lori Wright(Graham) and Christopher Grover.
Heide loved most was being an "Omi" to her grandchildren: Lauren Lochner, Kayla Hughes, Helena Hughes, Melanie Wodhams, Kelly Wright, Trevor Wright , Audrey Grover, Ruby Grover and Soren Grover. She was also "Omi" to her great-grandchildren, Lucy and Leo DiMarco.
Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life in honor of Heide on Saturday, May 7 at 1:00pm at the Campbell Community Center Roosevelt Redwood Room, 1 W. Campbell Ave, Campbell, CA.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be sent on behalf of Heide to Point Reyes National Seashore or Bay Area Cancer Connections.
