Frances Mary (Purdy) Talley

December 19, 1924 – November 3, 2017

Frances Talley passed from this earth November 3, 2017 just shy of her 93rd birthday, to reside forever in God’s heavenly gardens. She was born December 19, 1924 in San Francisco to Charles and Lillian Purdy. The family soon moved to Willow Glen where she grew up with her two brothers Ed and Chuck and sister Helen on a dusty unpaved street when this was the “Valley of Heart’s Delight”.
In 1959 Frances married George Talley and together they raised six girls and two boys in their San Jose house that George had built and expanded.

Frances was preceded in death by her husband George, and brothers Edward and Charles Purdy. She is survived by her sister Helen Ferreti and husband Ray, daughter Carolyn Tanner and husband Terry, daughter Erica Ferioli and husband Kenneth, daughter Cheryl Talley and husband John Robinson, daughter Alison De Aratanha, daughter Trina Marshall, daughter Francine Johnson and husband Jay, and son Randy. She was blessed to have 13 grandchildren and 26 greatgrandchildren, all of whom delighted her and made her proud. She took a great interest in the lives of her children and their children and so enjoyed their visits, phone calls and email photos. The most important and precious times for her were the family gatherings. The family regularly celebrated birthdays and holidays and there were numerous weddings and extended family reunions. Christmas Eve with ravioli and white elephant gift exchange and Easter egg hunts were favorite events. (Some eggs in the garden are still awaiting discovery.)

In addition to her family she enjoyed many passions which continued into her later years. She loved to walk and could be seen most any day around her neighborhood or downtown Campbell with a stop at the most convenient Starbucks for a coffee and a short break to read. She especially liked reading history and historical novels and books about the British royalty.

She decorated the inside of her home extensively every Christmas season and eagerly welcomed many family and friends who stopped by for the lengthy tour.
A lover of antiques, Frances filled her comfortable home with an eclectic mix of furniture and knick-knacks, and knick-knacks, and more knick-knacks. When that wasn’t enough she expanded to antique and collectible dolls. Her extensive collection was proudly displayed in her home. A visit to grandma’s house was an experience in time travel.

She was a big San Francisco Giants fan and if you happened to walk by her home during baseball season and heard her scream you could be sure that one of her Giants had just knocked one out of the park.

One of her greatest passions was her garden. She loved everything about it: the flower blossoms, the fragrance, the visual impact, and especially her springtime tulip display and growing the big pumpkins in the summer. She even enjoyed the work, digging in the soil, raking leaves, planting new annuals, and pulling weeds. It all gave her tremendous pride and self-satisfaction.

Frances will be remembered as a sweet, gentle white-haired woman with a loving heart who enjoyed a good party. She was a very special mom, grandma, aunt and friend. Her family and friends meant the world to her and they knew how important they were in her life. She lived to be nearly 93 by a full and active life, and the commitment of her family and caregivers who helped her remain independent.
