Barbara, a proud native of San Francisco, graduated from Star of the Sea High School (1961), earned a degree from San Jose State University and went on to enjoy a 37-year career as a teacher at the Evergreen School District in San Jose, CA. She was a passionate educator and loved teaching her students, many of whom she remained in contact with over the years.
She enjoyed celebrating life with family and friends, her annual vacations with dear friends to Calistoga and Morro Bay, Pedro card game tournaments, and was a loyal fan of the San Francisco 49er’s and SF Giants.
Barbara is survived by her brother, Edward Burns (Nancy Curtin); niece, Michelle Gordon (Aaron), nephew, Brian Burns (Heather), great-niece, Elizabeth Gallagher-Burns (Evan), great-nephews, Owen Gordon, Colin Burns and Brayden Burns, and many circles of beloved friends. Her generous loving spirit will be missed by all who knew her.
Barbara was lover of animals calling them affectionately “the four leggers.” She was a donor to several animal care organizations. In remembrance of Barbara’s life, the family asks that any charitable donations be made to Silicon Valley Humane Society, 901 Ames Ave., Milpitas, CA 95035 ; 408-262-2133 x150
