Robert Roland Nay
Resident of Campbell
Robert (Bob) passed away on February 4th, 2017 with his wife and two dogs by his side. When diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2016, Bob remained dedicated to his family, in his work and in his will to fight his illness. He remained the brave, strong man and devout Catholic he was throughout his life.
Bob was born on July 29, 1943 in Buffalo, New York to Roland and Dorothy (Auger) Nay and grew up on the East Coast. He married Patricia Mullin in 1966 and they had three children, Patrice (Wolfla), Robert Jr. and Scott Nay. Although the marriage did not last, it never changed the deep, strong love he felt for his children.
It was in San Francisco that he met the love of his life, Monica Land (Alvarez). They were together for over 30 years and were preparing for their 20th wedding anniversary. In 2004 he adopted James (Chris) and Joseph (Ryan) Land as his own sons.
Bob had a lifelong career in the construction industry, starting when he was 18 and continuing up until his final days. In 1994 he started his own construction business - RAM Building Company. Bob’s reputation preceded him and his company grew and thrived over the years, including long-standing contracts with Great America, Stanford University and VTA.
Bob was a dedicated father to all of his children, whether it was attending every game and practice or supplying his construction talents to his kids’ schools, weddings or homes. He was an avid reader and skilled sailor, spending most weekends in recent years during the non-rainy season on his boat with his wife and dogs. He was most relaxed in his condo in Mexico, reading, doing crossword puzzles and watching and listening to the ocean. Bob had a dry sense of humor and was known for his witty one-liners.
He impacted so many with his calmness, gentleness, intelligence and hard work. It is for those qualities that he will be remembered. His life will forever be cherished by his children, son-in-law John Wolfla, daughters-in-law Melissa Nay, Trinity Nay and Loren Land, grandchildren Nick Christoffersen, Nick and Amber Nay, Declan Nay, Noelle and Aviana Land, great-granddaughter Kayli Christoffersen, God-daughter Blair Gilbert and many nephews and nieces. He is survived by father Roland and step-mother Amy Nay, his loving sister, Beverly Flores and brother Michael. Bob was preceded in death by his brother Gary and his mother. Family, friends and colleagues are invited to a Mass in honor of Bob at St. Lucy’s Church on Friday, February 24th at 11:00 am.
