CARMELA DORIS REYNA (SCHEGG)
Born in San Francisco, Ca. on June 19, 1936 and passed away into the arms of our Lord on June 7, 2017, she was 12 days from her 81st birthday. Carmela grew up in San Francisco, Ca. with her parents Leo and Elsa Schegg, and her brother Leon Schegg. Born Doris, she took up the name of Carmela when she entered into the Novitiate in 1955 as Sister Carmela. She completed her final vows and spent the next 18 years with the Order of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur. She taught 1st and 2nd graders in San Jose, Yuba City, Chico, Folsom, Salinas and Campbell during her years with the Order. After leaving the community, she continued to stay in touch with the Sisters via emails, website and occasional phone calls. Carmela decided the keep the name Carmela with Doris as her middle name, and continued teaching for another 30 + years when she retired in 2002. She was so loved that many of her students would keep in touch with her into adulthood. Two of them Sharon Ganas, and Jose Salazar were even at her bedside to the very end.
Carmela met and fell deeply in Love with Raymond Reyna. As she described him, he was her Soul Mate. They were married in November of 1976. She loved spending time with him and going to Pacific Grove and enjoying the Ocean. Carmela was also the light of Raymond's life. His world would rise and the sun would set with Carmela, until his passing on June 19, 2013. This devastated Carmela and for weeks on end she would go to St. Lucy's Church and sit in the back pews during Mass and gently cry for her Beloved Raymond. After nearly 2.5 months of this ritual, is where the next phase of her life began…
It was at St. Lucy's when she would go to Mass and the Priest would instruct the members to turn and greet their neighbor that she met Carlos. They soon became fast friends and would eventually go for coffee. Their friendship grew in to a mutual love for each other. Carlos was there for Carmela over the next nearly 4 years. Through traveling the world, to going to PG to watch the sunset together & just daily living, to illnesses, Carlos would always be there for her, as she was for him. There was a genuine and strong love for each other. We all saw how happy he made her. And never did Carlos complain about her several shrines devoted to Raymond throughout the house. He always accepted that Raymond was her Soul Mate and 1st Love, which didn't diminish in the least Carmela's love for Carlos. She was a very loving and giving soul, and was definitely loved by so many people. She will truly be missed by all.
Carmela is survived by her longtime companion Carlos Perez, her brother Leon (Kathy) Schegg, her sisters Barbara Salomon and Mary Salomon, her daughters Kathy (Anthony) Latino and Debbie (Joe) Silva, brother in law Richard (Elda) Reyna and sister in law Carol Milzarek.
